Did you know that the sediments in the Upper Rhine Rift in Southwest Germany, more specifically Baden-Württemberg, is among the largest deposits of aggregates (sand and gravel raw materials) in central Europe?
In an area of 300 km length and 30-40 km width, the Upper Rhine Rift yields exploitable sand and gravel of up to 120 m thicknesses. In the year 2017, more than 18 Mio tons of products were exploited making Baden-Württemberg self-sufficient. The State Geological Survey of Baden-Württemberg (LGRB) provides further details also on other resources via Baden-Württemberg Online Map and at the GeoERA information platform EGDI.
